In Europe a Convention Ground is a very expensive place most often with a beautiful open air auditorium. Just look at the small danish convention ground to see how expensive such places can be. Right now it is for sale for app. 13,500.000 Cedi (4,600,000 USD)
An Assembly Hall in Denmark on the other hand is a closed building, just like a really large Kingdom Hall. Beside a large meeting hall it will also have dinning rooms and many other facilities. At least this is how they are build in Northern Europe where circuit assemblies have to be held through the winter.
What is called a Convention/Assembly Ground in Europe is called an Assembly Hall in Ghana. Maybe you have seen my post on the largest of the 8 Assembly Halls we have in Ghana: Baatsona in Greater Accra
So what is a an Assembly Ground in Ghana? Put simply it is a more or less undeveloped piece of land where assemblies and convention can be held. It could also be the future land for the next Assembly Hall.
Some Assembly Grounds are simply plots of land, others have permanent buildings on them. Lets visit the nice small ground in your neighbor town of Hohoe. On this plot of land there will be held 3 regional conventions this year, two in Ewe and one in Twi. The only permanent convention structure is the baptism pool. The building on the picture is the local Kingdom Hall, and this is of course also used as offices during the conventions.
Når man som dansker for første gang kommer til Ghana bliver man imponeret over det store antal Stævnepladser de har her i landet. I år vil de Regionale Stævner blive holdt på 18 Stævnepladser ud over 8 Stævnehaller og nogle få lejede faciliteter. Jeg ved ikke nøjagtigt hvor mange Stævnepladser der er i det hele, der kan være flere.
Når vi siger Jehovas Vidners Stævneplads i Danmark så tænker vi jo naturligvis på den der står til salg i Silkeborg. En smuk veludformet, men også dyr facilitet. Selv efter at havde været til salg i flere år og med de dårlige hus priser står den stadig til 25 millioner dansk kroner.
En Stævnehal i Danmark er derimod en lukket bygning, på mange måder en ufattelig stor rigssal med tilhørende spisesale og andre faciliteter. Sådan er de bygget for at vi kan holde vores kredsstævner året rundt.
Men I Ghana betyder ordene noget andet. Hvad danskere kalder en stævneplads kalder ghanesere en stævnehal. Måske du har læst min blog om Ghanas største og smukkeste stævnehal, Baatsona in Accra.
Så hvad er en Stævneplads i Ghana. Den er helt som ordet siger en plads hvor man kan holde stævner. Altså en mere eller mindre ubebygget stykke jord. Det kunne endda være stedet hvor en Stævnehal (altså det vi på dansk kalder en stævneplads) kan blive bygget.
Nogle ghanesiske stævnepladser er blot jordlodder, mens andre har forskellige permanente bygninger. Lad os besøge den lille bitte stævneplads i vores naboby mod nord, Hohoe. I år vil der blive afholdt tre regional stævner her. To på Ewe og en på Twi. Den eneste parmente stævnekonstruktion på stedet er dåbbassinet. Bygningen i ser på billederne er den lokale rigssal, der naturligvis bliver brugt til forskellige kontorer når der er stævne.
